Virgin Media is to increase some of its prices on 1 May, and remove the charge for itemised billing. The main price rise will be for customers who have the XL package. This package will increase by £1 per month. All other TV prices will remain the same.

Broadband customers on the 2mbs base package - M - will see a £2 per month rise. All other broadband tiers will not see a price rise.

Regarding telephone, itemised billing, which had always attracted a £1 charge in former ntl regions, will be scrapped. The prices of its main telephone packages will be unchanged. Customers taking a single call features will see that rise by by 25p but those who have two or more call features will not see a price change. Calls to 0844 numebrs will rise by 2p/minute, calls to mobiles will rise by 1p/minute and all premium rate numbers will be subject to an addition 5p/minute increase.

One other new charge will be for £1.25 per month for everyone who has a paper bill - ie through the post.

Virgim Media also announced an online storage facility called "My Stuff" and said that it would redesign virginmedia.com.

The company also said it would be removing 270 telesales and customer service jobs as it closes two of its Midlands call centres. Some of these jobs may be relocated to its Manchester call centre, which the compnay says will be its main UK customer service base. It also indicated that international call centres, where staff costs are much lower, will play a larger part in customer service, and the company signled out its base in Manilla in The Phillipeans for some UK job relocations. This 270-strong job loss ia part of a plan to remove 2200 people - 15% - from its workforce by 2012 as part of a plan to improve cashflow by £120 million over that period.
