50% year-on-year increase in VM VoD viewing PDF Print E-mail

Virgin Media has said that usage of its video-on-demand service has increased by 50% during 2009.

The cable company reports that there were more than 750 million views during 2009, an increase of 50% when compared to 2008 with 59% of digital TV customers using the service on a regular basis.

In December alone, there were 76 million views, up6% when compared with November. The ITV player had 25 million views with the BBC iPlayer clocking up 20 million views giving a total 2009 viewing count for the BBC iPlayer of 291.3 million. The ITV Player has only been available on Virgin Media since May 2009.

Other stats showed that 11 million FilmFlex purchases were made in 2009 with a 29% increase in December when compared to November with "The Hangover" being the most watchesd movie followed by "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Price" being the second most watched film. Views of music videos increased 17% in December with "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga being the most requested music video in December.
