ESPN has unveiled its new channel.
The channel will launch on 3 August and will cost from £9 per month on Sky. It will incorporate ESPN America and provide a service of American sport, international sport and the 46 Premier League matches it acquired following the demise of Setanta Sports. The channel will be available in both standard defintion and high definition on Sky, in slots 417 and 443 repsectively. ESPN America will stop broadcasting on that date, although it may return at a later date, but ESPN Classic will continue.
Full details of carriage and price on other platforms has not been unveiled but the £9 per month on Sky will only be available to Sky Sports customers. Other customers will pay £12 per month. ESPN has indicated that it may look at acquire other UK sporting coverage and has been linked to a possible joint deal with BSkyB for the Scottish Premier League. The two broadcasters are also working alongside each other as Sky Sports will provide the coverage for ESPN's matches although ESPN graphics will be used. Sky will also be responsible for selling ESPN's advertising.
