Food Network to launch in UK next month PDF Print E-mail

American channel The Food Network is to launch on satellite in the UK next month.

 

The channel, owned by Scripps Network Interactive, will go on air on 9 November and will roll out to Europe, Africa and the Middle East early next year.

Scripps is also looking at bringingother Scripps channels to Europe, as hinted by Scripps Networks president of international development Greg Moyer when he said: "This is the first of what we hope will be many ventures to expand the global footprint of Scripps Networks Interactive." Fine Living Network is being looked at for possible launch in Europe next year.

The UK venture for Food Network is being done in conjunction with Chello Zone, which recently annoucned a deal with CBS to rebrand all but one of its Zone channels as CBS.

Chello Zone chief executive Dermot Shortt saidd: "Scripps Networks has a vast library of lifestyle programming that is respected the world over, particularly the entertaining, high-quality food content that continues to climb in popularity and break ratings records in its native US. I'm certain that Chello Zone's broadcast partners and viewers across Europe, Africa and the Middle East will be delighted to experience first-hand the engaging shows and the entertaining personalities who make Food Network the huge success that it is."

Food Networkl will launch on Sky and may also appear on Freesat due to Chello having carriage for its six channels on that platform.
