ITV has announced that it has extended its flagship arts show The South Bank Show until the end of the decade.

The show, which celebrates its 30th anniversary, will be on air now until the end of 2009.

It is not clear as to whether Melvyn Bragg will continue to host the show throughout this period as he has said he does not imagine himself being the presenter through that time.

This extended commission comes at a time when ITV has been looking to cut back its public service programming with religion, childrens’ and arts programming all being under the threat of the chop.
