BSkyB is to bring back nineties favourite Gladiators. Sky One will broadcast ten episodes of the series which was a staple of Saturday night TV for ITV in the nineties. Sky said that twelve new Gladiators would be used and that around 30 contestants would take part with auditions for the contestants beginning soon. Sky also said that it would build a studio from scratch to accommodate the show as there currently isn't a studio big enough to produce the programme. ITV used to make the show at Birmingham's NIA arena but Sky's studio is likely to be in London. The programme will be made by Elisabeth Murdoch's production company Shine. Sky One controller, Richard Woolfe, said: "I am delighted to announce that the unmissable 1990s TV show Gladiators is returning to British screens and it will be bigger and better than ever before. "We've witnessed the revival of Take That and the Spice Girls; Sky One viewers can look forward to a televisual treat - the return of the ultimate David and Goliath battle where everyday amateurs will compete against a new breed of gladiator. "Our charismatic and eclectic warriors will compete in contests of physical strength and endurance." ITV cancelled the show in 2000 after eight years after ratings fell.
