BBC2's weekday business programme Working Lunch will end in July.

The programme ends after a run of 16 years. Adrian Chiles was the show's first presenter when the programme launched in the autumn of 1994.

The BBC said in a statement that ratings for the show, which is broadcast on weekday lunchtimes for eleven months of the year, have been in slow but steady decline and that a revamp in 2008 failed to reverse the trend although viewing figures now seem to have stabalised at around 300,000.

The BBC added that a new weekend business programme would be launched on the BBC News Channel and that the Working Lunch slot would be replaced by a BBC World programme called "GMT" which is hosted by George Alagiah.
