| BBC to launch UK Radioplayer |

The BBC, in conjunction with the commercial radio insudtry, is to launch a new internet radio player.
The player, which will be called the UK Radioplayer, will feature more than 400 Ofcom-licensed commercial, community and student stations. Users will be able to access the Radioplayer via stations' websites and users will be able to search content by musical style, content and even by song. Participating stations will be able to include additional material such as on-demand audio, clikc-to-buy songs and track listings.
The project is being carried out in conjunction with Global Radio, Guardian Media Group and RadioCentre. Tim Davie, the BBC's head of audio and music, said: "This is a really exciting development and a result of focused, collaborative thinking within the radio industry. The aim of this service is to grow lostening across the industry and help preserve radio's uniquie position." Ashley Tabor, Global Group Founder and CEO, said: "Radioplayer has been developed with the listener in mind and is a big step forward for the radio industry as a whole, providing further cohesion between commercial radio and the BBC as we drive to Digital." The UK Radioplayer will launch early next year.
