The BBC has brought into service its first DAB transmitter for the north west coast of Scotland. The transmitter covers the Oban area and will also provide coverage to eastern Mull.

A second transmitter in the area will cover Fort William and will come into service next month.

In recent weeks the BBC has also switched on a transmitter covering the Rhondda Valley, the last of eight transmitters recently brought into service in the Welsh Valleys, Cumbria in Keswick in Cumbria, Truro in Cornwall and Dursley in Gloucestershire.

The llaunch of the Fort William transmitter will mean that a total of 150 transmitters will be broadcasting the BBC's DAB multiplex.
