BBC Radio 1 has announced changes to its Sunday evening line up which will see all programming brought under a new banner - The Switch Zone. Ben Cooper, Deputy Controller, BBC Radio 1, said: “Tom has been doing a fantastic job with Switch so I’m really pleased to bring him to Radio 1 and his new show means we are strengthening our relationship with Switch even further. Our Sunday line-up offers something for all of our younger audiences, from a newly refocused Surgery which will be able to react quicker to the stories that are affecting our young audiences every week, to the UK’s only official Chart Show with Reggie Yates and an exciting new going to bed show with Nick and Annie.”

The Switch Zone will run from 4pm until midnight rather than the current BBC Switch 7pm to midnight slot, and the expanded Switch Zone will encompass The Radio 1 Chart Show. This will be followed by a new programme presented by comedian Tom Deacon, who presents the 5.19 show each weeknight at 5.19pn on bbc.co.uk and Saturday edition as part of BBC2's Switch lunchtime slot. The Surgery, presented by Alex Hayden-Jones, will loose half its slot, becoming a one-hour slot and will feature more speech than at present. The Nick Grimshaw and Annie Mac co-presented show will move to a new 10pm to 12midnight slot. The new schedule will begin at the end of March.
