Cambridge community station 209radio is to close at the end of this month.

The station had been going to close three months ago but an anonymous donor responded to an on-air request for funds, which bosses said at the time was enough to keep the station on air for another three months.

An on-air statement was read out. It said: "The time just isn’t right for sustainable community radio in Cambridge. We’ve had nearly 7 years of learning, music, laughter and tears, broadcasting on the web, from venues and on your FM dial. With what resources we’ve been able to use in an increasingly tough environment, we’re confident that we’ve enriched the Canbridge airwaves with new programming and touched the lives of many with that content.”
