Sky is planning to launch a 'pull video-on-demand' service next year. Sky currently offers a 'push-VOD' service which pushes selected content onto the Sky+ harddrive. However, Sky wants to launch 'pull VOD.' Pull VOD is what Virgin Media offers whereby customers choose content from a large central catalogue and Sky plans to launch a similar service within a year.

Sky's chief executive Jeremy Darroch said: "We're already working on..pull VOD which did great in the lab and which we expect to bring to market in about a year's time."
