Virgin 1 will start broadcasting 24 hours a day on Freeview from next month.
This is happening because Virgin 1 has secured a slot on SDN, giving it a 24 hour slot compared to the 6pm to 6am slot it currently has on multiplex D. Virgin Media TV will use that evenings-only slot for Virgin 1's timeshift service. Jonathan Webb, executive director of Virgin Media Television, said "This is great news. Ever since we launched Virgin1, we’ve been itching to give Freeview viewers more of what they love. I’m delighted that they will now be able to satisfy their appetite for up-front entertainment throughout the day, and catch up with their favourite shows an hour later during peak times." The channel will occupy the same EPG number - 20 - but some viewers will have to do a rescan to get the 24/7 feed of Virgin 1 after the extra hours come on line on 20 May. No EPG number has been announced for the timeshift channel.
