Five has picked up the fourth and final DTT high definition slot. Five had been bidding against Channel 4 for this slot but was awarded the licence by Ofcom this mornong.

Five plans a primetime simulcast of its main channel and hopes to have it broadcasting by the end of next year. Five says it will farm out the daytime slot to other broadcasters and that overnight horus will be used for things like supplying on demand content.

The other three services, to be run by the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, will launch in the Granada region later this year.
