Digital switchover began today for the Isle of Man. The country followed the usual pattern with the BBC2 analogue signal being turned off and being replaced by one of the two BBC multiplexes. The second part of switchover will take place on 16 July.

Digital switchover will also see the country's regional news from ITV switching from Tyne Tees/Border to Granada. The Isle of Man had always been in the Border region but following the merger of the Tyne Tees and Border regions, the country polled its residents who decided to ally itself with the north west in the same way that regional BBC services also come from Manchester.

The Isle of Man is served by a main transmitter on Douglas and nine relays.

Next week the Caldbeck transmitter, which covers Cumbria, will begin digital switchover.
