The BBC's radio stations could stop broadcasting during the evening on Freeview in Scotland if the Corporation launches its Gaelic service BBC Alba on the platform.

BBC Alba broadcasts each evening on satellite and the space needed to carry the service on Freeview can only be found if the BBC stops broadcasting its radio services. The BBC Trust is currently evaluating the impact of BBC Alba and a public consulation is now underway and the BBC Trust will report ahead of the start of digital sswitchover in Scotland which begins in central and northern Scotland next spring.

BBC Alba,w hcih began broadcasting a year ago, has a weekly reach of 220,000 adults, 4% of the viewing audience.
