Horse & Country TV has signed a global highlights deal for the Badminton Horse Trials.

Horse & Country will put together a highlights package of the event, which takes place over the May Bank Holiday weekend, for sale to international broadcasters in a deal which runs until 2012. H&C will offer these rights free of charge on the condition that broadcasters agree to sign the coverage's sponsors, which H&C is now looking to sign up, hoping that they will pay six-figure sums.

In addition, extended highlights of the event will be broadcast on the TV channel, which broadcasts on Sky Digital. The BBC holds the live rights to the event.

Heather Killen, who runs Horse & County TV, said: "We are trying to get the sport out of its little ghetto... it has been pushed to the Siberian fringes of the broadcast schedule or off the planet. We are trying to reawaken an appetite for it and bring it mainstream. We are not planning on being a nice little standalone channel in the UK alone. We want to develop a chunky, international TV and internet presence."
